The Breast Center at Landmark Medical Center is located at 206 Cass Ave., directly across the street from the main campus of the hospital.

The Breast Center is a comprehensive, coordinated, compassionate approach to diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.  We will be offering state of the art care based on national standards, and we will be accessible to women in this area, offering our services within one hospital campus,” said Dr. Allison McAteer, program director.  Landmark Medical Center has offered breast cancer screening, diagnostic imaging and most treatment modalities, but this will be the first coordinated, multidisciplinary approach under the umbrella of The Breast Center.

Gary J. Gaube, President & CEO of Landmark Medical Center added, “Prior to a short time ago, women in this region who got breast cancer often opted for a more radical surgical procedure because they could not travel to Providence, Worcester or Boston for treatment.  Sometimes, those who do not live here do not understand what reality is in small communities like Woonsocket, and northern Rhode Island.  But we understand it.  Because we work here, every day.  We know The Breast Center is going to save lives.  We know that it will mean better, quicker, and more coordinated care than what has previously been available in this area.  Looking forward to this opening has inspired all of us who work very hard on issues such as funding and management, to work even harder to keep this hospital strong and viable.  We save lives here at Landmark.  And we are proud to open The Breast Center because we know that we will save more lives, and increase the quality of care available to women here – thereby extending lives, and improving quality, too.  Providing this type of service close to home for women is cost-effective – we know how difficult it is for the majority of people to travel to Providence.  A woman facing radiation therapy might need to do that each day, every day, for over a month.  Now, you can come here, because Landmark is prepared to take care of you with our team of experts.  We’re proud of all of our physicians and team members who have worked so hard to bring us to this day.”

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month will celebrate its 21st year of reaching out to women with ways to reduce their risk of breast cancer.  In this “coming of age” year, state of the art breast cancer care is “coming of age” in Woonsocket and in the region.
