Throughout the year, Landmark Medical Center offers several screening clinics as a no-cost benefit to the community. The screenings are intended to promote healthy living and encourage early detection should a problem arise. The clinics are typically planned to coincide with national recognition weeks and follow a similar schedule each year.
The clinics are coordinated and run by Dr. Ahmed Nadeem and the staff at the Northern Rhode Island Hematology/Oncology Program, which is located at Landmark’s Woonsocket campus, 115 Cass Avenue, Suite 2, Woonsocket, R.I.
In recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Landmark Medical Center holds a breast cancer screening clinic every year, typically on the third Saturday in October. In order to be eligible for this two-part program, participants must register for a mammogram (offered at no cost to participants typically during the last two weeks of September) AND attend the clinic in October. At the clinic, participants undergo a breast examination, review of their mammogram, and consultation with a physician. The clinic is intended for women who do not have a primary physician and have not had a mammogram in the past year. Pre-registration is required.
In recognition of National Prostate Cancer Awareness Week, Landmark Medical Center holds an annual prostate cancer screening clinic, typically on the third Saturday in September. As a community service, the clinic is offered at no cost to the public and includes a consultation with a physician, a prostate specific antigen (PSA) blood test, and a digital rectal exam (DRE). The screening is intended for men who are not under the care of a urologist and have not had a PSA test within the past year. Pre-registration is required.
Free skin screenings are offered once a year at Landmark Medical Center, typically in August. The screening consists of a physical examination by a physician, followed by an explanation of individual results by a nurse. The screening is intended for people who do not have medical coverage, are not under the care of a dermatologist, and have concerns about a pigmented mole or lesion. Pre-registration is required.
