Linda Rowey named 2008 Employee of the Year

Landmark Medical Center is pleased to announce that nurse educator Linda Rowey has been named 2008 Employee of the Year.

Rowey, of North Smithfield, joined Landmark in 1998 as an ICU nurse. In 2003, she accepted the position of nursing educator. She holds a bachelor of science in nursing from Boston University and a master’s in education from Rhode Island College. She is also a certified wound care specialist.

Her current job responsibilities are extensive and varied: She is responsible for nursing orientation for all new hires, she develops and manages continuing-education programs for staff, she is Landmark’s team leader for the ICU Collaborative (a statewide initiative to promote better outcomes in the ICU by reducing bloodstream infections, ventilator-associated pneumonia, and sepsis), and she is the lead instructor for BLS and ACLS, wound care, and pressure ulcer prevention. She is also responsible for clinical placement of nursing students at Landmark.

Rowey was nominated by her peers for the award, first earning honors as Employee of the Quarter in August 2008. Wrote one co-worker in the nomination letter: “Linda makes rounds on the unit and listens to staff about their concerns. Her calm demeanor makes her a great liaison between staff and managers, and she has a unique ability to support management and staff at the same time. Since Linda is often out on the units helping staff when the units are busy, she sees firsthand what kind of educational needs exist. She is unselfish, and will readily take on more projects just so it will help the staff.”

Rowey will represent Landmark Medical Center at the Hospital Association of Rhode Island’s annual “Celebration of Excellence” to be held Nov. 3 at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick.
