Sajid Siddiq, M.D., a cardiologist at Landmark Medical Center,recently earned board certification in cardiovascular computed tomography from the Certification Board of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (CBCCT) in Gaithersburg, Md.
The CBCCT was established in 2007 to promote and enhance patient care by defining the domain of cardiovascular computed tomography and identifying the requisite knowledge and skills for quality practice through a certification program that fosters excellence and encourages continual learning. The first certification board exam was offered in 2008 and 715 physicians earned certification. Dr. Siddiq is one of only two physicians in Rhode Island to earn the distinction.
Dr. Siddiq practices at Rhode Island Cardiovascular Group, located at 68 Cumberland St., Woonsocket, R.I. He completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in cardiology at the University of Connecticut. Dr. Siddiq is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in the subspecialties of internal medicine, cardiology, nuclear cardiology, and echocardiography.
Cardiovascular computed tomography is an emerging field in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac patients. For example, physicians can use the procedure to identify disease and aneurysms in the aorta, detect atherosclerosis disease in the carotid artery of the neck, or guide surgeons making repairs to diseases blood vessels, such as implanting or evaluating a stent.
