Landmark offers summer volunteer program for students

Landmark Medical Center is now accepting applications for summer 2009 student volunteers. The program provides valuable work experience to high school and college students, ages 14-20. Volunteers first firsthand about healthcare careers by working with staff and assisting patients, while gaining the personal satisfaction of helping others in the community.

A minimum time commitment of 30 total hours of service over seven weeks is required during the program, which runs from June 29 through August 14. Flexible shifts of three to six hours are available weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., along with limited evening and weekend opportunities. Orientation and training are provided. The deadline to reserve placement is Monday, June 1. Placements will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Student volunteer positions are available in the following departments: Dietary, Transport, Patient Registration, Nursing, Storeroom, and Central Supply, as well as in many offices.

Landmark Medical Center, located at 115 Cass Avenue, Woonsocket, R.I., has an extensive volunteer program with participants ranging in age from 14 to 90 working in many different areas of the hospital.
