Beacon Hospice Inc. is proud to honor Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket with the 2009 Excellence in End-of-Life Care Award. With this award, Beacon Hospice salutes and honors Landmark Medical Center for its commitment and delivery of the highest quality end-of-life care services to its patients. Beacon Hospice presented the Excellence in End-of-Life Care Award to Landmark Medical Center during a ceremony at the hospital on June 17.

Landmark Medical Center is the only hospital in Rhode Island to receive this honor. Also receiving the award was Dr. Ahmed Nadeem, medical director, and the staff of the Northern Rhode Island Hematology/ Oncology Program, located at Landmark’s Woonsocket Unit, along with four nursing homes from across the state.

Landmark Medical Center was nominated and chosen to receive this award because of its demonstrated ability and performance in:
• Compassionate patient care
• Promoting access to the hospice benefit
• Effective continuing education
• Professional team work with a hospice provider

“As a community hospital, we are in a unique position to provide comfort and care for our terminally ill patients, and our staff have gone the extra mile to be responsive to the special needs and requirements of each individual patient and their families,” said Richard R. Charest, Landmark President, who accepted the award on behalf on the hospital. “It is an important part of our mission to help terminally ill patients spend their last days with dignity, surrounded by their loved ones.

The Excellence in End-of-Life Care Awards is a Beacon Hospice awards program to honor a care giving facility that has achieved excellence through its dedication and determination to deliver superior end-of-life care. Beacon Hospice hopes these awards will inspire others to strive to provide every end-of-life patient with the best quality of care possible to allow them to live the remainder of their lives in comfort and with dignity.
